DESIGNATION OF PRESUMED ASBESTOS-CONTAINING MATERIALS
The recently promulgated OSHA Standard Occupational Exposure to Asbestos; Final Rule requires both building owners and business occupants to identify through the process of "designation" the presumed asbestos-containing materials "PACM" within all buildings and industrial facilities. An owner or occupant must assume PACM materials contain asbestos unless Objective Data is established by following OSHA protocols for identification. The most cost effective PACM Designations are performed by accredited asbestos professionals who can (1) classify presumed materials as non-asbestos; (2) recommend testing of selected PACM materials based upon the potential for disturbance; and (3) obtain samples of PACM materials for future laboratory analysis during the PACM field identification.
